FAQs

  • What is a psychological assessment or evaluation?
    • A psychological assessment is a structured, evidence-based process used to understand how a person thinks, learns, feels, and functions. Psychological assessments may be requested in order to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning or to facilitate entry into a private or specialized school. The evaluation process includes three appointments:
      • A telehealth initial consultation or clinical interview to gather information and determine testing needs. (45 minutes)
      • An in-person testing appointment including, behavioral observation; caregiver and/or teacher reports; and measures of cognitive ability (IQ), academic achievement, visual-motor skills, expressive and receptive language skills, executive skills, emotional and behavioral functioning, adaptive behavior, and/or social skills. (2 to 6 hours)
      • A telehealth feedback session involving a detailed discussion of the test results and recommendations along with a written report for your records. (45 minutes to 1 hour)
  • What do you evaluate?
    • I specialize in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, mood disorders, and behavior disorders. I also conduct abbreviated evaluations for entry into private or specialized school settings.
    • I do not conduct evaluations for sexual abuse, custody disputes, parental fitness, nor other forensic needs.
  • Do you provide evaluations for adults?
    • No, I only provide assessments or evaluations for children and teens.
  • Do you provide therapy?
    • No, I no longer offer therapy. I focus exclusively on psychological assessments, and I provide referrals to trusted therapy providers based upon the findings of your evaluation.
  • Do you conduct Deeming/Katie Beckett Waiver evaluations?
    • Yes, I conduct evaluations for Katie Beckett or Deeming Waivers.
  • What insurance do you accept?
    • I accept Anthem (BCBS) and Cigna.
    • I also accept self-pay clients and provide superbills so you may seek reimbursement through their insurance. Please note that superbills cannot be provided when I am in-network with your insurance company.
  • Do you prescribe medication?
    • No, psychologists in the state of Georgia do not have prescribing privileges. If you are seeking medication, please consult your primary care physician, pediatrician, or psychiatrist. If I conduct your evaluation, I will provide you with a list of preferred providers.
  • How do I schedule an appointment?
    • Call the office at 678-825-5660 on Monday through Thursday, 8:30AM to 2:30PM. You may also send a request through the Contact Form.
  • Do you offer a waitlist or cancellation list?
    • Yes, I offer a cancellation list for those families hoping to expedite the evaluation process. Often, this can expedite your evaluation by up to two months; however, how quickly you are seen is ultimately dependent upon the number of cancellations I receive and how quickly you return the necessary paperwork. Essentially, the sooner you return your paperwork, the higher on my cancellation your child will be, and the better chance you have of securing an earlier appointment. To request this paperwork, please call the office at 678-825-5660.
  • How quickly can you complete an evaluation?
    • Typically, assessments are completed within less than one month from your first appointment. This can be delayed if requested documents or paperwork are not returned in a timely manner.
  • Can you provide documentation for school accommodations (e.g., IEP/504)?
    • Yes, my evaluations meet the documentation requirements for public schools.
  • Does insurance cover learning disability evaluations?
    • It has been my experience that insurance companies do not cover evaluations for learning disabilities. In order for a service to be covered by insurance, it must be deemed “medically necessary.” Learning disability evaluations are considered an educational, rather than a medical need.
